Surat al-Alaq · The Clot

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 1

   ٱقْرَأْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ۝١ayah 1

   Read: In the Name of your Lord who created.

2. 2

   خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ ۝٢ayah 2

   Created man from a clot.

3. 3

   ٱقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلْأَكْرَمُ ۝٣ayah 3

   Read: And your Lord is the Most Generous.

4. 4

   ٱلَّذِى عَلَّمَ بِٱلْقَلَمِ ۝٤ayah 4

   He who taught by the pen.

5. 5

   عَلَّمَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ ۝٥ayah 5

   Taught man what he never knew.

6. 6

   كَلَّآ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ لَيَطْغَىٰٓ ۝٦ayah 6

   In fact, man oversteps all bounds.

7. 7

   أَن رَّءَاهُ ٱسْتَغْنَىٰٓ ۝٧ayah 7

   When he considers himself exempt.

8. 8

   إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجْعَىٰٓ ۝٨ayah 8

   But to your Lord is the return.

9. 9

   أَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى يَنْهَىٰ ۝٩ayah 9

   Have you seen him who prevents?

10. 10

    عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰٓ ۝١٠ayah 10

    A servant when he prays?

11. 11

    أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ ۝١١ayah 11

    Do you think he is upon guidance?

12. 12

    أَوْ أَمَرَ بِٱلتَّقْوَىٰٓ ۝١٢ayah 12

    Or advocates righteousness?

13. 13

    أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ ۝١٣ayah 13

    Do you see how he disbelieved and turned away?

14. 14

    أَلَمْ يَعْلَم بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرَىٰ ۝١٤ayah 14

    Does he not know that Allah sees?

15. 15

    كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمْ يَنتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًۢا بِٱلنَّاصِيَةِ ۝١٥ayah 15

    No. If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock.

16. 16

    نَاصِيَةٍ كَـٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ ۝١٦ayah 16

    A deceitful, sinful forelock.

17. 17

    فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُۥ ۝١٧ayah 17

    Let him call on his gang.

18. 18

    سَنَدْعُ ٱلزَّبَانِيَةَ ۝١٨ayah 18

    We will call the Guards.

19. 19

    كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَٱسْجُدْ وَٱقْتَرِب ۩ ۝١٩ayah 19

    ۩ Prostration of recitation (sajdat at-tilawah)

    No, do not obey him; but kneel down, and come near.
